I recently started going to the gym and taking the Zumba class. Our instructor is a riot. Her routines for the songs are really great, and I definitely don’t know how to make my body move in some of those ways. She’s awesome, and I don’t want to leave my gym for one that has even more classes, because I love this class.
I have also returned to the world of ballet. I am taking an adult ballet class that is pretty awesome, except we are learning the Russian Syllabus, which means it’s a bit harder than anything I’ve done before because it goes against what I leared when I was younger. The awesome part is that we have two men in the class. They’re so nice. I really like this group of parents. I’m the non-parent and definitely one of the least flexible. I guess I should work on that. . . it’s almost embarassing. Some of it is nerves, some of it is just a lack of stretching.
Thanks to ballet class, I auditioned for a part in The Nutcracker. Since I’m no longer 12, this means it’s for the Party Scene when all the adults get to do their thing and the kids watch them. Heehee. I hope I get it. We’ll see. Castings are posted on Monday. Nervous much?
The other great thing is after the audition I went to the contra dance. I love contra dancing. It was amazing to get back into it. We had a stellar band, hilarious caller who isn’t pleased that people don’t know what is going on but also don’t listen to him. I felt his pain, it’s hard when you spend more of your time shoving people in the right direction than actually getting to do the dance.
My happy contra time was getting to do a dance with a guy who knows how to swing!! Turns out he and his wife were folk dancers in Boston. Well, that would explain things a bit. Petronella twirl: he doesn’t clap. He’s certainly not from DC where they do!!
There were some really awesome dancers there last night and it made things a lot of fun. I sat a dance or two out, which is fine. I also didn’t waltz, which is fine. I will get back into waltzing soon enough.
Now, if only the contra dances were weekly rather than monthly!!
